From Autonomous Robotics to Physical AI: Meet GR-01

At security essen 2026, GENERATIVE Robotics presented GR-01 to the public for the first time.

GR-01 is designed around a simple idea:

One platform. Multiple applications. Different payloads.

Rather than building a separate robot for every individual task, Generative Robotics has developed GR-01 as a modular autonomous mobile platform that brings mobility, perception, software and task-specific payloads together in one system.

From Individual Systems to One Platform

Across security, automotive, pharmaceutical production and other industrial environments, companies face increasingly similar challenges.

Finding enough staff is getting harder. Operating costs continue to rise.

At the same time, many technical systems still operate separately, requiring their own interfaces, monitoring and processes.

GR-01 is designed to take over repetitive tasks while connecting information and functions within one platform.

The principle is simple: Technology should reduce complexity for the user rather than pass it on.

Modular Hardware for Different Tasks

GR-01 uses four-wheel drive with independent suspension and a height-adjustable head equipped with cameras and sensors.

Its modular architecture allows different payloads to be added depending on the task.

Possible configurations include:

• Additional sensors

• A cobot arm for manipulating objects or operating controls

• A trailer for transporting materials

This means the same mobile platform can be configured for different applications instead of requiring a completely different robot for every use case.

On a full battery, GR-01 can operate for up to 10 hours.

The Software Connects Perception and Action

Hardware provides mobility. Sensors provide information about the environment.

The operating system connects these components and coordinates what the robot does.

At the customer site, GR-01 can be assigned tasks and learn its environment and routes.

During operation, it follows these routes autonomously while cameras and sensors continuously capture its surroundings.

AI helps detect and classify people, objects and situations such as open doors or windows.

At predefined points, the robot can perform specific tasks using its configured payloads.

Authorized users can also access the live video feed remotely.

The result is a system in which mobility, perception and task execution are coordinated through a common software platform.

From Autonomous Robotics to Physical AI

This is where GR-01 becomes particularly interesting.

Autonomous systems can already navigate, detect objects and execute predefined workflows.

The next step is to make robots better at understanding the context of what they perceive.

With generative AI and Physical AI, Generative Robotics is working toward systems that do more than simply recognize an object or event.

The goal is for the robot to understand what is happening in its environment and derive appropriate actions from that information.

Perceive. Understand. Act.

Humans Still Matter

Physical AI does not mean removing people from the process.

GR-01 can detect, document and execute predefined actions autonomously.

For decisions that require responsibility, experience, communication or judgment, people remain involved.

The robot takes over routine tasks.

Humans remain responsible for the decisions that matter.

Where Can GR-01 Be Used?

The platform is designed for applications including:

🛡️ Security

Asset protection and autonomous patrols on industrial and commercial sites.

🔍 Inspection

Monitoring equipment and collecting measurement data in production and pharmaceutical environments.

🔧 Maintenance

Supporting routine tasks and site operations.

📦 Intralogistics

Transporting materials using configurations such as a cobot arm or trailer.

Because GR-01 is modular, several of these functions can be combined on the same platform depending on the configuration.

One Platform. Multiple Possibilities.

The most interesting aspect of GR-01 may not be any single sensor, camera or AI capability.

It is the idea of bringing mobility, perception, software and task execution together on one adaptable platform.

A security robot does not necessarily have to remain a security robot. An inspection platform does not necessarily have to be limited to inspection.

The same mobile platform can be configured for different operational requirements.

The Bigger Question

As autonomous robotics develops, we may see a shift away from robots designed around only one specific task.

Instead, modular platforms could allow the same robot to adapt as operational requirements change.

GR-01 is one example of this approach.

And as robotics moves toward Physical AI, the focus may increasingly shift from robots that simply detect and execute to systems that can perceive, understand and act within the real world.

What Would You Use GR-01 For?

  • Security?

  • Inspection?

  • Maintenance?

  • Intralogistics?

Or something completely different?

If one autonomous platform could be configured for multiple tasks, which application would you deploy it for first?
