Spain-based INBRAIN Neuroelectronics has completed patient recruitment for its first-in-human study evaluating a graphene-based cortical interface.

The first-in-human study recruited ten participants, eight of whom underwent surgery using the graphene interface.

It gives surgeons the clear, detailed information they need to protect vital functions, such as speech and movement.

The device performed well throughout these procedures with no failures or safety issues, allowing researchers to collect complete, high-quality datasets from all eight surgical patients.

“The completion of patient enrollment in this first-in-human study marks an important step for INBRAIN and the field of neurotechnology,” said Carolina Aguilar, CEO and Co-founder, INBRAIN Neuroelectronics.

“Graphene has the potential to fundamentally change how we interface with the brain, enabling higher resolution of neural function-specific biomarkers, safer, and more intelligent BCI systems,” Aguilar added.

Neural mapping

INBRAIN’s graphene electrodes are a major advancement in neural technology.

Currently, the standard electrodes used are often too rigid and bulky to capture clear data for surgeries. On the other hand, graphene electrodes offer a major upgrade for brain surgery.

Graphene is often hailed as a “wonder material” made of a single layer of carbon atoms. With its flexibility, it wraps around the brain’s microscopic folds like high-tech cling film.

The newly designed graphene neural interface is ultra-thin and flexible.

Precision is vital in neurosurgery, where even a single millimeter can determine whether a patient retains the ability to speak or move.

The device uses sensitive carbon rather than metal to deliver signals that are much clearer and more precise, enabling surgeons to map and understand brain activity in real time with far greater detail.

In this study, INBRAIN’s graphene interface was tested during brain tumor surgeries to evaluate its safety and performance alongside standard surgical tools.

While the main goal was to ensure the device was safe, the study also tested how well it captured signals, its stability, and how easily it fit into a standard operating room setup.

Interestingly, the device proved highly successful, showing no safety issues or failures across all eight patients.

90-day follow-up phase

Beyond safety, the technology demonstrated its power during awake surgeries, where it successfully captured high-resolution brain signals as patients performed tasks such as naming objects.

“This study demonstrates that graphene can safely interface with the human brain, and capture neural signals with exceptional fidelity and resolution to enable precise decoding of brain and speech-related patterns metals can barely see,” said Dr. Kostas Kostarelos, Co-Founder of INBRAIN Neuroelectronics and Chief Scientific Investigator of the study.

The study, a collaboration between the University of Manchester and the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, is now entering its 90-day follow-up phase.

With full results expected later this year, the era of intelligent BCI therapeutics is slowly becoming a clinical reality.

INBRAIN aims to commercialize next-generation BCI systems that improve surgical accuracy and offer new treatment pathways for neurological disorders.

While this trial focused on brain tumors, the implications go much further.

Reportedly, INBRAIN is combining graphene’s abilities with Microsoft’s AI to create a system that goes beyond recording brain signals—it actually understands them.

With a new partnership at the Mayo Clinic already underway, this technology is quickly moving from a specialized surgical tool to a potential permanent solution for Parkinson’s and epilepsy.

In a groundbreaking development that promises to reshape the landscape of digital displays and advanced sensing, Swiss researchers at ETH Zurich have engineered organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) so small they are 100 times tinier than a human cell. This monumental miniaturization, spearheaded by Professor Chih-Jen Shih, paves the way for a new era of ultra-sharp screens, high-precision microscopes, and advanced light control mechanisms crucial for the future of robotics and smart manufacturing.

The Dawn of Nanoscopic Illumination

Traditional OLED technology is already a staple in premium smartphones and televisions, celebrated for its vibrant colors and deep blacks. However, the team at ETH Zurich has pushed the boundaries of what’s possible, developing a novel one-step fabrication process that shrinks these diodes to an unprecedented scale. With individual pixels measuring approximately 100 nanometers – an astonishing 50 times smaller than current state-of-the-art OLEDs – this innovation boasts a pixel density 2500 times greater than before.

To put this into perspective, the researchers demonstrated their achievement by forming the university’s logo from 2,800 individual diodes within a structure only 20 micrometers tall – roughly the size of a single human cell. This corresponds to a theoretical resolution of an incredible 50,000 pixels per inch (ppi), making ultra-sharp screens for future wearables and near-eye devices a tangible reality.

Reshaping Robotics and Smart Manufacturing Perception

The implications of such miniature light sources extend far beyond consumer electronics, offering transformative potential for industrial and robotic applications:

Advanced Machine Vision & Perception: For robotics, the ability to generate incredibly detailed images means a quantum leap in visual perception. Robots could achieve unprecedented precision in inspection, quality control, and micro-manipulation tasks. Imagine autonomous systems with vision capabilities that rival or even surpass human sight at microscopic levels, enabling intricate assembly or defect detection previously impossible.

High-Resolution Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs): Ultra-sharp, miniature displays could revolutionize how human operators interact with complex robotic systems. Near-eye displays for augmented reality applications in industrial settings, providing real-time data overlays or guiding intricate repairs, would benefit immensely from this pixel density.

Sensitive Sensors & Measurement: Beyond displays, these nano-OLEDs can function as powerful light sources for highly sensitive biosensors. Capable of illuminating the most minute areas of a sample, they could enable the detection of signals from single cells, offering profound advancements for medical robotics, lab automation, and bio-manufacturing processes.

On-Chip Optical Data Transmission: The technology could power new optical systems that transmit data by shaping light directly on a chip. This means faster, more energy-efficient data communication within industrial IoT (IIoT) and edge computing devices, crucial for real-time analytics and distributed intelligence in smart factories.

Mini Lasers and Precision Tools: When bundled, these nano-OLEDs can construct powerful mini lasers, offering new possibilities for precision cutting, welding, or material processing at the micro-scale within automated production lines.

Phased-Array Optics: Controlling Light Without Moving Parts

One of the most exciting aspects of this breakthrough is the ability of these diodes, being smaller than the wavelength of visible light, to control emitted light with exceptional precision. When arranged closely, light waves from neighboring pixels can interact, reinforcing or canceling each other. This phenomenon is the basis of phased-array optics, allowing for electronic steering and focusing of light beams without any moving parts.

This capability promises holographic displays and advanced optical systems that can dynamically shape light for various applications, including potentially creating new types of 3D imagery around viewers through meta-pixels. Such control over light at the nano-scale opens doors for innovative sensory input for robots, dynamic projection mapping in industrial spaces, or advanced security and identification systems.

The Future is Bright (and Tiny)

The manufacturing process itself is highly compatible with standard lithography processes used in computer chip production, thanks to the use of silicon-nitride membranes that are 3,000 times thinner than conventional metal masks. This ease of integration suggests a faster path from lab to industrial application.

Published in Nature Photonics, this research by ETH Zurich marks a pivotal moment in display and photonic technology. For the robotics and smart manufacturing sectors, it heralds an era of unprecedented visual acuity, sensing precision, and compact, intelligent optical systems, pushing the boundaries of what automated systems can perceive and achieve.

Revolutionizing Construction Through Autonomous Inspection

The construction industry, historically reliant on manual labor and traditional methods, is undergoing a profound transformation driven by advanced robotics and artificial intelligence. This shift promises to enhance safety, improve efficiency, and deliver unprecedented levels of data-driven insight into every phase of a project.

A prime example of this evolution was recently demonstrated at the Anythink Nature Library construction site in Thornton. There, Atlas, a sophisticated robotic dog from CU Denver’s engineering program, navigated the challenging environment of a crawlspace. Equipped with advanced sensors and lights, Atlas effortlessly traversed tight, dark passageways, streaming live 360° video and collecting critical data back to Associate Professor Moatassem Abdallah and his students. This real-time data proved invaluable, providing immediate insights to inform the project’s next steps and potential adjustments.

The Unseen Benefits of Robotic Site Surveillance

The deployment of mobile robots like Atlas for site inspection represents a monumental leap forward for construction. Traditionally, inspecting confined or hazardous spaces poses significant risks to human workers. Robotic solutions mitigate these dangers, allowing for thorough inspections without putting personnel in harm’s way. Beyond safety, these robots offer:

Enhanced Data Accuracy and Consistency: Robots can collect high-resolution images, videos, thermal data, and 3D scans with unparalleled precision, ensuring a consistent data stream for project monitoring.

Increased Efficiency: Automated inspections can be conducted faster and more frequently than manual checks, accelerating progress and identifying issues earlier.

Data-Driven Decision Making: The vast amounts of data collected can be processed by AI and analytics platforms to identify anomalies, track progress, predict potential problems, and optimize resource allocation.

Improved Documentation: Comprehensive digital records of site conditions at various stages provide an invaluable audit trail for quality control, compliance, and dispute resolution.

Beyond Robotic Dogs: The Integrated Smart Construction Site

While robotic dogs excel at navigating complex terrains and providing detailed ground-level data, they are just one component of the broader smart construction ecosystem. Drones offer aerial perspectives for large-scale mapping and progress tracking, while other specialized robots can automate tasks like bricklaying, welding, or material handling. The true power emerges when these various robotic and AI systems are integrated, creating a holistic, intelligent oversight of the entire construction process.

The work being done by CU Denver and similar institutions highlights the critical role of academic research in bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology and practical industry application. As construction projects become increasingly complex and demand higher standards of safety and efficiency, integrating advanced robotics and AI isn’t just an advantage—it’s becoming a necessity. The future of construction is being built, one autonomous inspection at a time.

For decades, the brain’s most enigmatic support cells, astrocytes, have resisted precise study. These star-shaped cells, critical for neuronal communication, maintaining the blood-brain barrier, and providing structural scaffolding, would collapse into unnatural forms when cultured on standard laboratory dishes. This fundamental challenge has long obscured their true behavior and hindered our understanding of devastating neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

The Breakthrough: Nanowire Mats Mimic Brain Tissue

A groundbreaking collaboration between Johns Hopkins University and the National Research Council of Italy has finally solved this puzzle. Scientists engineered transparent mats of glass nanowires designed to precisely mimic the fibrous texture of natural brain tissue. The results are remarkable: when astrocytes are grown on these nanowire networks, they regain their intricate, star-like morphology, branching and maturing just as they would inside a living brain.

“Frustratingly little is known about the stunning diversity of astrocyte morphology, and we also don’t know much about the molecular machinery behind these shape shifts,” said co-senior author Ishan Barman, a Johns Hopkins bioengineer. This new platform provides the first opportunity to observe these vital cells in their natural state outside the body.

Real-time Insights Through Label-Free Imaging

The innovation extends beyond simply restoring cellular shape. The research team paired their nanowire platform with a high-resolution, label-free imaging approach. This advanced technique produces detailed 3D views without the need for fluorescent tags or invasive stains, allowing scientists to observe astrocytes growing, reorganizing, and evolving in real time. This was previously an impossible feat in laboratory settings, opening unprecedented avenues for precise quantification of astrocyte morphology and behavior.

Paving the Way for Smarter Brain Models and AI

The implications of this breakthrough are vast and extend directly into the realm of advanced robotics and AI. The ability to culture and observe brain cells in a more natural state is a critical step forward for:

Enhanced ‘Brain on a Chip’ Platforms: These sophisticated microfluidic devices aim to replicate the functions of the brain, and more accurate cell behavior is paramount for their efficacy. This nanowire system offers a major leap beyond traditional flat culture models, enabling a new generation of more realistic and predictive ‘brain on a chip’ models.

Neuro-Inspired AI: A deeper understanding of how brain cells interact and organize in their natural forms can provide invaluable insights for developing next-generation artificial intelligence. By mimicking the true complexity of biological neural networks, researchers can explore novel computational architectures and learning paradigms.

Neurodegenerative Disease Research: With astrocytes now observable in their natural state, scientists can gain critical insights into how their dysfunction contributes to diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. This directly accelerates drug discovery, allowing for earlier intervention strategies and more effective treatments.

As co-senior author Annalisa Convertino of the National Research Council of Italy highlighted, “When grown on nanowire mats, astrocytes regain their star-like morphology, branching and maturing as they do in vivo in the brain.” This fundamental shift in neuroscience research holds immense promise not just for medicine, but for informing the design of more intelligent and biologically-inspired robotic and AI systems.

In a significant leap forward for assistive technology, researchers at Penn State University have unveiled NaviSense, an innovative smartphone-based system poised to transform how visually impaired individuals interact with their environment. This AI-powered application leverages advanced machine vision and language models to identify everyday objects in real time, offering unprecedented autonomy and speed.

NaviSense, which recently earned the Best Audience Choice Poster Award at the ACM SIGACCESS ASSETS ’25 conference, addresses critical limitations of current assistive navigation tools. Many existing solutions are either reliant on human support teams or require pre-loaded object databases, severely restricting their flexibility and real-world applicability.

Breaking Bottlenecks with Real-Time AI

As explained by Vijaykrishnan Narayanan, Evan Pugh University Professor and A. Robert Noll Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering, the need to preload object models has been a major bottleneck. “This is highly inefficient and gives users much less flexibility when using these tools,” Narayanan notes. NaviSense shatters this paradigm by connecting to an external server powered by sophisticated Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs).

This powerful combination enables NaviSense to process voice commands, scan the surroundings, and identify target objects on the fly, without the need for static, pre-programmed libraries. “Using VLMs and LLMs, NaviSense can recognize objects in its environment in real-time based on voice commands, without needing to preload models of objects,” Narayanan emphasized. “This is a major milestone for this technology.”

Designed with User Input, Delivering Intuitive Guidance

The development of NaviSense was deeply rooted in user experience, with extensive input from visually impaired participants. Ajay Narayanan Sridhar, a computer engineering doctoral student and lead student investigator, highlighted how these interviews shaped the app’s core functionalities, mapping directly to real-world challenges.

The system intelligently filters out irrelevant objects based on spoken requests and can engage in conversational feedback, asking clarifying questions when needed – a flexibility often missing in older systems. A standout feature is its ‘hand guidance’ capability. By tracking the smartphone’s movement, NaviSense provides precise audio and haptic cues to guide the user’s hand directly to the identified object. This feature, consistently requested by users during surveys, fills a crucial gap in active physical navigation assistance.

Promising Performance and Commercial Readiness

Early trials with 12 participants demonstrated NaviSense’s superior performance compared to two commercial alternatives. The system significantly reduced object search times and provided more accurate detection, leading to a much-improved overall user experience. One enthusiastic participant praised its directional cues: “I like the fact that it is giving you cues to the location of where the object is, whether it is left or right, up or down, and then bullseye, boom, you got it.”

With support from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Penn State team is now focusing on refining power consumption and optimizing model efficiency. According to Narayanan, the technology is rapidly approaching commercial readiness, promising a future where AI-driven assistance offers unparalleled independence and accessibility for the visually impaired.

The holiday shopping season, particularly events like Black Friday, often signals a boom for retailers. However, for industries like personal care products, it also marks a surge in the illicit trade of counterfeit goods. The Personal Care Products Council, a prominent trade group, recently underscored this threat by launching a concerted anti-counterfeit campaign. Their message is stark: fake products don’t just mimic brands; they actively erode the U.S. economy, jeopardize jobs, and undermine the critical $2.7 billion investment in scientific research and innovation that underpins product safety and efficacy. While the immediate focus is on consumer safety and economic integrity, this challenge presents a compelling case for the advanced technological solutions that form the backbone of smart manufacturing and industrial automation.

The Escalating Threat: Counterfeiting’s Multi-Billion Dollar Impact

Counterfeiting is far from a victimless crime. In the personal care sector, it poses significant health risks to consumers who might apply unregulated, substandard, or even dangerous formulations to their skin and hair. Beyond the immediate health concerns, the economic ripple effects are devastating. The Personal Care Products Council rightly highlights job losses, as legitimate manufacturers struggle to compete with illicit operations that bypass regulations, quality control, and fair labor practices. The U.S. economy suffers from lost tax revenue and a general erosion of trust in the marketplace. Perhaps most insidious is the undermining of innovation. When billions are invested in research and development – ensuring product safety, discovering new ingredients, and pioneering sustainable practices – only for those innovations to be cheapened and copied, it stifles future investment and progress. This creates a critical imperative for robust, technologically advanced defenses to safeguard both consumers and legitimate businesses.

Building Digital Defenses: The Role of AI, Machine Vision, and Automation

Combating sophisticated counterfeit networks requires an equally sophisticated arsenal of tools. This is where smart manufacturing technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Vision, Industrial IoT, and advanced Robotics, become indispensable. These technologies offer a multi-layered defense, from production line authentication to supply chain transparency.

Precision Authentication with Machine Vision & Perception

At the forefront of defense are advanced machine vision systems. These systems, equipped with high-resolution cameras and sophisticated algorithms, can perform rapid, microscopic inspections that far exceed human capabilities. They can verify intricate packaging details, detect subtle differences in logos, fonts, and colors, and authenticate security features like holograms, QR codes, and RFID tags that are often missed by counterfeiters. From verifying batch codes to checking the integrity of tamper-evident seals, machine vision ensures that only genuine products proceed through the supply chain. AI-powered vision systems can even learn to identify new types of fakes by recognizing evolving patterns and anomalies in product appearance or packaging over time, offering a dynamic defense against ever-adapting threats.

AI-Powered Analytics and Robotic Precision

Artificial Intelligence extends beyond visual inspection into predictive analytics and supply chain intelligence. AI algorithms can analyze vast datasets from sales, logistics, and even social media to identify potential counterfeit hotspots, predict fraudulent activities, and flag suspicious patterns in distribution channels. This allows brands to proactively target areas of high risk. Robotics, meanwhile, plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of the manufacturing and packaging process itself. Collaborative robots (cobots) can be deployed for precise application of anti-counterfeit markers, such as laser etching unique serial numbers or applying micro-dot codes. They can also automate sorting and inspection cells, ensuring that every product is checked for authenticity before it leaves the factory, minimizing human error and maximizing throughput. The combination of AI for intelligent decision-making and robotics for precise, repeatable actions creates a formidable barrier against infiltration.

Industrial IoT for End-to-End Traceability

To truly combat counterfeiting, visibility across the entire supply chain is paramount. Industrial IoT (IIoT) sensors embedded in products, packaging, and logistics infrastructure can provide real-time data on a product’s journey from raw material sourcing to the retail shelf. This data – including location, environmental conditions, and handling history – can be fed into a centralized platform, often secured by blockchain technology. Blockchain creates an immutable, transparent ledger of every transaction and movement, making it virtually impossible for counterfeit goods to enter the legitimate supply chain undetected without leaving a digital footprint. This end-to-end traceability allows brands to pinpoint where and when a product might have been compromised, enabling rapid response and recall if necessary.

The fight against personal care product counterfeiting is a complex battle that demands a holistic, technology-driven approach. By leveraging the power of AI, precision of robotics, vigilance of machine vision, and transparency of Industrial IoT, legitimate manufacturers can build digital fortresses around their brands. This not only protects their significant investments in innovation and safeguards jobs but, most importantly, ensures that consumers receive safe, authentic products they can trust. As the digital economy grows and supply chains become more intricate, the integration of these smart manufacturing solutions will be crucial for maintaining market integrity and consumer confidence.

Expert Commentary

The Personal Care Products Council’s campaign highlights a growing demand for advanced anti-counterfeit solutions, signaling a significant market opportunity for technology providers in the smart manufacturing and automation space. We anticipate increased investment from consumer goods companies in integrated AI, machine vision, and IIoT platforms that offer end-to-end supply chain visibility and authentication. This will drive innovation in areas like microscopic feature recognition, real-time data analytics for fraud detection, and secure digital identities for products. Furthermore, it will foster strategic partnerships between tech firms and brand owners, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in product security and traceability. Companies that can offer robust, scalable, and easy-to-integrate solutions will gain a substantial competitive advantage, as brand protection increasingly becomes a key differentiator and a non-negotiable aspect of corporate responsibility.

The proliferation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, has ushered in an unprecedented era of convenience and innovation. However, with this accessibility comes a significant and growing threat: rogue drones breaching restricted airspace. From disrupting airport operations to potentially carrying illicit payloads into secure facilities, unauthorized UAVs pose a serious civil security challenge. Addressing this escalating concern, researchers at Germany’s Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg have developed a groundbreaking autonomous interceptor drone, poised to revolutionize how critical infrastructure and public spaces are protected.

Pioneering Autonomous Airspace Defense

The journey to develop this sophisticated interceptor began in 2017 under the MIDRAS project, focusing on fundamental detection, tracking, and interception methods. This foundational work culminated in a successful proof-of-concept demonstration in 2020. Building on these critical insights, the project advanced into the flagship IDAS (Innovative Drone Defence System) initiative, transforming the early prototype into a fully functional and robust interceptor drone system.

A pivotal design decision, made in close consultation with police officers who would be the primary end-users, was to opt for a single, larger interceptor drone rather than a coordinated fleet. Dr. Julian Rothe, a research assistant at the university’s computer science department, explained that this approach significantly simplifies deployment and enhances operational reliability in real-world scenarios. “This setup meets practical requirements much more effectively,” Rothe affirmed, highlighting the system’s user-centric design.

The IDAS system boasts an impressive autonomous target acquisition capability. It employs advanced LiDAR sensors for initial detection of potential intruders. Once a target is identified, an onboard camera, powered by sophisticated AI-based recognition algorithms, verifies its identity. This crucial step differentiates genuine drone threats from harmless objects like birds, preventing false positives and ensuring precise engagement. After verification, the interceptor autonomously maneuvers into the optimal position for capture.

Precision Net Capture and Forensic Integrity

The core of the Würzburg interceptor’s efficacy lies in its unique capture mechanism. As it closes in on its target, the interceptor drone deploys an extendable net mid-flight. This high-speed net is designed to safely entrap the unauthorized drone with minimal damage. The emphasis on minimizing damage is paramount, as security agencies often require the captured drone to remain intact for crucial forensic analysis. This allows investigators to trace the drone’s origin, identify its operator, and understand its intended mission, which is vital for law enforcement and national security.

Once captured, the rogue drone is not simply brought down, but rather carried by the interceptor to a predefined, secure landing zone. This controlled retrieval process further ensures both safety and the preservation of evidence. As Dr. Rothe emphasized, “Ensuring that the incoming drone is captured safely and remains as undamaged as possible was crucial.”

Perhaps one of the most remarkable features of this system is its complete autonomy. Security personnel are only required to trigger a start button, typically after an existing perimeter monitoring or airport security system flags a potential threat. From that moment onwards, the interceptor takes over entirely: navigating, acquiring the target, pursuing it, and executing the capture and safe transport. This pilot-less operation significantly reduces the human workload and allows for rapid response, especially in high-stress situations. With the technology now mature, the research team is already exploring follow-on ideas and expects to continue expanding its portfolio in fully autonomous drone defense, envisioning it as a practical, essential tool for civil security agencies worldwide.

The German interceptor drone represents a significant leap forward in counter-UAS technology. By combining autonomous operation, AI-powered recognition, and a non-destructive capture method, it offers a robust and intelligent solution to the complex challenges posed by rogue drones. This innovation not only enhances the security of critical areas but also sets a new standard for responsible and effective airspace protection in an increasingly drone-filled world.

Expert Commentary

This development from the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg marks a pivotal advancement in the counter-UAS (C-UAS) market, signaling a shift towards more sophisticated, autonomous, and non-lethal interdiction methods. The emphasis on a single, larger drone over a fleet, driven by end-user consultation, highlights a practical understanding of operational deployment and reliability in real-world civil security scenarios. The integration of LiDAR for detection and AI for target verification underscores the critical role of AI in real-time, complex decision-making for robotic systems, moving beyond simple detection to intelligent threat assessment. The net-based capture, prioritizing forensic integrity, addresses a crucial need for intelligence gathering post-interception, differentiating it from jamming or kinetic solutions that destroy the evidence. This technology is perfectly positioned to meet the burgeoning demand from critical infrastructure operators—airports, power plants, government facilities, and large public event venues—who require scalable and effective drone defense without collateral damage. The market implications point to increased investment in fully autonomous C-UAS platforms, driving innovation in onboard AI, sensor fusion, and sophisticated robotic manipulation for capture and safe retrieval. Furthermore, the push for pilot-less operation will accelerate the development of robust regulatory frameworks for autonomous defense systems, opening new opportunities for system integrators and specialized robotic developers.

The future of warehouse automation just took a significant leap forward, as Israeli firm Mentee Robotics, co-founded by Mobileye’s Amnon Shashua, unveiled an extraordinary demonstration of its V3 MenteeBot humanoid robots. An unedited 18-minute video shows two V3 units working autonomously in a real warehouse setting, showcasing capabilities that signal a new era for industrial humanoid deployment.

Unpacking the Autonomous Warehouse Demonstration

In a compelling display of real-world functionality, two Mentee Robotics V3 units successfully moved a total of 32 boxes from eight uneven piles to four designated storage racks. What makes this feat particularly impressive is the complete absence of remote control; the robots executed the entire sequence with full autonomy.

The unedited footage highlights several critical advancements. The V3 MenteeBots did not follow pre-programmed fixed paths. Instead, they relied on live perception and sophisticated motion planning, reacting dynamically to the varying heights and placements of each box while maintaining a consistent working rhythm. Crucially, the robots navigated a shared floor space without collision, a vital aspect of multi-robot coordination required for complex warehouse environments. This measured, reliable pace emphasizes Mentee Robotics’ focus on industrial stability over mere speed at this developmental stage.

Engineered for Industrial Demands: The V3 MenteeBot’s Prowess

The V3 MenteeBot, standing at 5 feet 9 inches (175 cm), is purpose-built for the rigors of industrial floors. Its robust capabilities are powered by two NVIDIA Jetson Orin AGX processors, enabling full 360-degree vision and on-board decision-making. This local processing power is a strategic advantage, circumventing potential signal interference and latency often encountered by cloud-dependent systems in large warehouse facilities.

The robot’s custom actuators provide high power density, allowing it to carry payloads of up to 55 pounds (25 kg) – sufficient for a vast array of common warehouse tasks. Further enhancing its industrial viability is a hot-swappable battery system, offering over three hours of continuous operation per charge and enabling rapid battery swaps for near-constant uptime, a non-negotiable requirement for 24/7 facilities.

This technical direction signifies a clear strategic pivot for Mentee Robotics, moving definitively from earlier concepts of domestic helpers to focus squarely on long hours of continuous, heavy-duty industrial operation.

The Humanoid Shift: From Demos to Dependable Enterprise Solutions

Mentee Robotics has explicitly stated its commitment to the B2B market, aligning with a growing trend among leading humanoid robot developers. Companies like Agility Robotics, with its Digit bots moving over 100,000 totes for GXO Logistics, and Figure, whose Figure 02 robots contributed to BMW production, are similarly demonstrating the tangible, long-term value of humanoid platforms in industrial settings.

The industry is maturing beyond one-off demonstrations, now demanding sustained, stable performance with minimal errors and a clear return on investment. The Mentee Robotics video, by showcasing extended, coordinated, and autonomous operation, aims to position the V3 MenteeBot not as an experimental prototype, but as a dependable, value-adding tool ready for deeper integration into the evolving landscape of smart logistics.

In an increasingly competitive humanoid robotics market, Chinese robotics company PHYBOT has made a powerful entry with its new full-sized electric humanoid, M1. Launched via a compelling YouTube video, the M1 robot impressed audiences by performing a standing backflip and an almost perfect ‘superman’ landing in a single take. While acrobatic feats have become a signature marketing move in humanoid robotics, pioneered by Boston Dynamics’ Atlas, PHYBOT leverages these stunts to highlight a critical differentiator: its high torque density advantage.

Founded by Tshinghua University alumni, CEO Ren Shiau and co-founder Mao Shuha, PHYBOT boldly claims the M1 to be the “most powerful humanoid robot ever created” and the “first full-sized electric humanoid to pull off a humanlike backflip.” These assertions position the M1 as a formidable contender designed for physically demanding tasks.

Unpacking the M1’s Robust Specifications
